About North East Psychology

Hello and welcome — we’re really glad you’re here.

North East Psychology is a private clinical psychology service based in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, led by Dr Louise Fernandes, Clinical Psychologist and EMDR Practitioner.

Louise qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in Newcastle in 2006 and brings over 20 years of experience working within NHS mental health services across both community and hospital settings. She now leads the clinic, working alongside a team of experienced Clinical Psychologists to provide high-quality, evidence-based therapy.

Our clinic

As a clinic, we specialise in supporting people with a wide range of psychological difficulties, as well as those adjusting to physical health conditions or life changes.

We offer face-to-face therapy in Jesmond, alongside online and telephone appointments, ensuring flexible and accessible support. We work with individuals aged 16 and over and offer concessionary rates for NHS and Blue Light workers.

Our approach

Our approach to therapy is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. We believe therapy works best when it feels like a shared process, where you are supported to move at a pace that feels right for you.

Across the clinic, we draw on a range of evidence-based approaches and tailor therapy to each individual’s needs. While our work is integrative, we most commonly use:

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Mindfulness-based approaches

We have a particular interest in trauma-informed care and in creating a sense of safety, trust, and understanding within therapy.

What you can expect

Reaching out for therapy can feel daunting, especially if you’re unsure where to begin. Our aim is to provide a safe, confidential, and supportive space where you feel heard and understood.

In your first session, we will take time to explore your background and current concerns. Together, we will develop a shared understanding of what has been difficult, what you would like to change, and the support already available to you.

From there, we will create a personalised and realistic plan to help you move towards your goals, at a pace that feels manageable and right for you. This plan remains flexible and is reviewed and adapted as therapy progresses.

Appointments last approximately 50 minutes.

Our team has extensive experience supporting people with a wide range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, panic, trauma and PTSD, relationship challenges, and adjustment to physical health conditions.

Whether your difficulties feel recent or long-standing, you do not have to face them alone. We are here to support you in moving forward with greater clarity, confidence, and compassion.
